2016 August Friday 26th

We started with roll in the morning and went to maths to finish of our measurement and start the design of our card board cake. after we finished the bell rang to eat and we went off to eat and play. After we lined up and  went to start of the very first plateau school Olympics leader by Mr Frater and Yasmin they thought it would be a great thing to do for sports we all had fun! Ruru started with the duoathalon but unfortunately  poor Shar got hurt during the event and was not able to play any more games but I must admit it is tiring though next we got to do the egg race.

With the egg race it was quite hard and very jiggly but what made it fun was not giving up even though your boiled egg often might make a slipp of jump off the spoon if you went to fast we also did the long jump with renew and the bean bag throwing with Jacob. The  highest length was 15 metres by Mathew and longest girl jump was Evangeline and boy jump also was won by Matthew then after that we couldn't carry on because the bell rung and it was raining the most important thing is that we had fun!!! After lunch we read a chapter out of a book called Emmy and the incredible shrinking rat after that we finished a bit of work  about the Olympics  and then played circle time how fun  the activity we did was 1 truth and 2 lies after that we went to assembly and that finished us of for today can't wait for next week and don't forget the weekends!

Wednesday 24th of August

Today we started out with the roll and some jump jam. Today while the roll was called we were asked what intermediates we were going to. There was a lot of Maidstone, Fergusson, or HIBS. We had a fabulous laugh when someone called it fergy.

We were told there was going to be a special treat for those of us that we're good. We were all excited, so I think we were planning to be on our most fabulous behaviour! We did jump jam merits and there wasn't as much as there usually was, I guess we were all a little tired from our trip to Maidstone yesterday.

Afterwards we did a basic facts test, and the. We were going to do some hard work on measurement. First stage 8 was marked, and then stage 7 and so forth. Stage 8 has three minutes and the other stages have four.

Then we had a lovely morning tea. We then came back and did some reading and then moved on to doing some finishing off on our Chromebooks.

We then went out for some P.E (physical education) and played a game of dodgeball, which was exactly what we needed and most of the country lass had been wanting to play dodgeball for a long time, so they were really happy. The hall was being used, so we used the court instead.

We then had a special treat treat of home, add Turkish delight from Mrs. Olds for those who were good. She chose Turkish delight because we had been reading The loin, the witch, and the wardrobe (Narnia) and had heard that most of us hadn't had Turkish delight. Majority of us loved it! Some even wanted more!

We then went to lunch and had our wonderful packed lunch. When we came back Mrs. Olds handed out the recipe  for the Turkish delight. We then did the role, and the question was what our favourite sport was. There was a wide range from netball to rugby, and dodgeball to cricket. Then we lined up to head out to singing.

At singing, we sang: the bare necessities, and guardian's of the Galaxy hooked on a feeling. It was some wonderful singing. It was some great effort put in by all of us.

Then we headed of to our enrichments. We had scrap booking, origami, building, computer programming, paper mashe, walking, problem solving, bush craft, cake decorating, movie making, baking, storytelling, golfing, Zumba, and enviro group. I was in movie making. There we did a quick enrichment movie about all the different enrichments. Which was a good idea.

We started off by sharing one of the IMovie's we made last time, which was by Oscar and Brendan. It was wonderful and was very funny too. There was a lot of background music. There was a lot of sound effects too. We made sure that we knew what shots we were going to have and what people were going to be involved. We also made sure we knew the rules about taking iPads around the school.

Then we went home. Except for the netball people, they have practice after school today. Good luck at practice!

Tuesday 23rd Maidstone visit:

Today we were all excited for our trip to Maidstone. We started off as usual, with our roll and jump jam, and Mrs Roberts shared the plan with us for the Maidstone visit, and gave the year 5s' jobs to do. We then moved onto our measurement work. The sheets were bigger this time, and so we had to do atleast two sheets a day this time.

After half an hour of measurement work, we were told to stop, make sure we had our names on it, and sit in the mat after putting it away. We were then sent out to morning tea after a run through of the plan.

When we returned to the class, it was to get our bags and line up. After lining up, we headed down to the bus that was going to take us to Maidstone. When we got there we sat down in the hall, which was big and they had lots of Windows, the first thing we were greeted by was a wonderful kapa haka performence. After that was done, the student representative commities head chair student came and did a speech for us. Afterwards we were greeted by one of the teachers.

We were then put into groups of 13, and we headed off to visit the the tech-art classes. My group visited woodwork, or meterial arts. There we made a knots and crosses game, and did some sanding and some of the Maidstone students helped us with burning the crosses into the little bits of wood that would be our crosses.

After heading back we had two bands perform for us. After they performed the songs: 'mama said' and 'she's so purple', we had a winner of the speech contest they do there talk to us. She did a fabulous speech about beauty, and then we were paired of into groups again. This time, my group went to visual arts, were we had to do a right hand picture, and a left hand picture. We all agreed that our right hand was better, yet the lesson behind it was stronger.

After we came back from there we played a bit of touch, in other words capture the flag with balls instead of a flag. Afterwards the referee gave out 4 golden tickets, which they give out at Maidstone for showing the values, and they then put them in a golden box, and if they are drawn out they are given a prize.

Afterwards we headed back to the hall, were they paired three of us with a tour guide. We went around the school, and we were free to ask any questions about the classes and school area. They then chose someone in their group to give a gold card. After they gave them a gold card, they were put in the box and one was drawn out. That one was from plateau! Yay! They were then given a prize and they sat down. The food people then had to get what they had made in food, and then we went back to the bus to return back to our lovely plateau.

We then returned back to plateau, talked about intermediate a bit and then returned home.

Narnia Day 22 August

We finished reading the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe last week and so we had a dress up day and a shared morning tea. Most people dressed up as characters from the books. We had some interesting white witches and even a wardrobe. After we finished watching the movie we played dodge ball with Kea class.

After dodgeball we had lunch which was again, delicious and filled with fun, and then Mrs. Olds taught the class. We did a fortune teller in Maori and there was an optional choice to make tinfoil Olympians, which could be doing any sport/event, or we could continue to do our own work. We were allowed to colour in the fortune teller, but we were also allowed to just colour in the flag.

The after noon was spent doing all of the tasks set, and some of our own work.   We were busy and bustling, but we were having fun. We had some amazing tinfoil people, some rather colourful fortune tellers, some fun work being done on Chromebooks, and just all around happiness. We had some fabulous first attempts in learning to make a tinfoil for person, and some people making up to 4 tinfoil people to take home and show their family. The place was busy with fun activities, but also with hard work and learning.
After we finished this fabulous and fun day at school, we headed back to home to our loving families.
